A Year of Afternoon Gardens - January

If you look on the sidebar under ‘letter topics’ you’ll see ‘a year of morning gardens.’ Back in 2006, I began taking monthly photos of the same spot, and when I had finished, I posted them all in a blog entry. I decided I’d do it again, (can it really be?) 8 years later. This time I’m going to take the photo in mid-afternoon on the first of each month and post it. There are flowers to the left of the patio, and behind the bench in front of the house. It’ll be fun to see the changes as the months go by. My 2006-2007 morning gardens are all the more meaningful to me as two of the dogs are now gone. But our Sadie is still here, and I’ll try and get her in a picture one of the months.

  1. Pretty (we'll be getting ours soon)snow that is. I'm reading Beatrix Potter's A gardening Life and it made me think of you. Hill Top Farms was one of her gardens....in England though. Great book Happy 2014 Nan

    1. Oh, I really want to read this! And the biography which I've owned for ages but haven't read yet. I am so very fond of her.
      And the same to you!

  4. That is a creative idea, and I am looking forward to seeing the seasonal changes in your garden. I used to do an entire year of daily pictures taken from the same spot (the view from my kitchen window, familiar to all my blog readers) in 2009. There was a gap of a few days around the time my husband died, but other than that, and with the exception of a few times when I was travelling and could not get to that spot, there really was one picture every day. I still have them all in an extra album on photobucket, and it is interesting to notice the slight - and sometimes more drastic - changes in the course of a year.

    1. Thanks. This is one of the areas I hope to 'improve' a bit. The garden just to the left of the patio is overcrowded with daylilies. Hard to believe how time passes and the plants just spread. :<)

  6. I love this idea ...and will look forward to the first of every month. Wouldn't this be a good idea for a calendar for your family? It looks really really cold right now!

  7. I really like this idea...we don't have lovely gardens...but possibly I could adapt it to photos of a pretty spot in our community...or maybe this is an incentive to change our gardens! I'll have to look at your previous posts... Take care and enjoy your winter wonderland.

    1. We hope to change ours this very summer. As I wrote in my post about the goat dying, she really stalled my gardens the past couple years.
